Delete your Chefless account

Your recipes, your kitchens, your call. Here's exactly how to remove your Chefless account and everything connected to it — in under a minute, from inside the app.

The short version

Open Chefless on your phone, then tap Profile → Settings → Account → Delete account. Your account, recipes, photos, and personal data are removed within 30 days. No hidden fees, no waiting period, no email back-and-forth.

Delete from inside the app

This is the fastest way. You'll be asked to confirm — once you do, deletion begins immediately and cannot be reversed.

  1. Open Chefless and sign in

Use the account you want to delete. You'll need access to that email address or social sign-in.

  2. Go to your profile

Tap the Profile tab in the bottom navigation.

  3. Open Settings

Tap the Settings icon in the top-right of your profile.

  4. Choose Account

    Inside Settings, tap Account.

What happens to your data

Deletion is final. Here's exactly what is removed and what — by necessity — stays behind.

Removed

  • Your profile (name, email, photo, bio, signature)
  • All recipes you created, with their photos and stories
  • "I cooked it" posts, comments, and ratings you made
  • Your follows, blocks, and follow requests
  • Kitchen memberships, invites, and schedule entries
  • Reports you submitted and reports filed against you
  • Your push notification token and notification history
  • AI Recipe Helper usage counters and prompt history
  • Your Cloudinary-hosted images (recipe photos, cooked-it shots, profile pic)

Retained for attribution or by law

  • If others have forked one of your recipes, the fork stays with the person who created it. Only your name remains attached as the original author.
  • If you led a kitchen with other members, leadership transfers to the longest-tenured remaining member; the kitchen itself is not deleted unless you were the last member.
  • Subscription and purchase records held by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat follow each provider's own retention policy.
  • Anonymized crash reports and security logs may be retained briefly under each provider's policy and are not personally identifying.

Deletion timeline

  1. Immediately You're signed out. Your profile, recipes, and content stop appearing in the app and feed for everyone.
  2. Within 24 hours Your account record, MongoDB documents, and Cloudinary-hosted images are queued for permanent removal.
  3. Within 30 days All remaining data — including encrypted backups — is purged. Subscription receipts retained by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat follow their own policies.

Want to delete just some data?

You don't have to delete your whole account to take things down. From inside Chefless you can:

  • Delete an individual recipe — tap the recipe → menu → Delete.
  • Remove a "cooked it" post — open the post → menu → Delete.
  • Leave a kitchen — Kitchens tab → kitchen → Leave.
  • Switch your account to private — Settings → Privacy → toggle Private account.
  • Turn off any push notification category — Settings → Notifications.
  • Block another user — open their profile → menu → Block.

Frequently asked questions

Can I undo deletion after I confirm?

No. Once you confirm in the app or in your email request, deletion is final and we cannot restore your account, recipes, or photos. Make sure to save anything you want to keep before continuing.

Will my subscription be cancelled?

Account deletion does not cancel your subscription with Apple or Google — those are managed in your iOS or Android account settings. Cancel there first to stop being billed. We don't process payments and can't issue refunds for the App Store or Play Store; refund requests go through Apple or Google directly.

What happens to recipes other people have forked from me?

The forks stay with whoever created them — that's their own copy. Your name remains attached as the original author for attribution, but no other personal information about you is shown.

I led a kitchen. What happens to it?

Leadership automatically transfers to the longest-tenured remaining member, so the kitchen and its members are not interrupted. If you were the only member, the kitchen is removed along with your account.

Will my email and name be retained anywhere?

No. Your email, name, profile photo, signature, bio, and Firebase Auth identity are all removed during deletion. The only place your name persists is as plain-text attribution on recipes that other people have forked.

I'm in the EU / UK / California. Do I have additional rights?

Yes. Under GDPR, UK GDPR, and CCPA you have rights to access, correction, deletion, and portability of your data, plus the right to object to certain processing. Email admin@chefless.org with the subject "Privacy request" and we'll respond within the timeframe required by the applicable law.
